ANYONE CAN HAVE a date night with their husband. But when Vice President Kamala Harris goes on a date with her husband to see Beyoncé in concert, there are added layers: The powerhouse VP with the Second Gentleman seeing another powerhouse woman perform. On Instagram she wrote, “To the one of one, the number one, the only one, @beyonce, thank you for a fun date.”

First Lady Michelle Obama wore many independent designers while in the White House, and although Harris has her own style — which at the beginning included various styles of pearls — she took a page out of Michelle Obama’s book. For the Beyoncé concert, she wore independent designer Lauren Godfrey of Harwell Godfrey’s Major Sun Sign pendant and Foundation chain. It was just the right touch with her gold lamé shirt and white pants for an elegantly casual look.

The Sun Sigh pendants are available in two sizes and with a diamond center stone or any of the birthstones. The VP wore a large pendant in what I believe was on a 16 inch or 18 inch chain, based on the photos.

Godfrey is based in California, which is the home state of the VP and of laid-back luxury.

The sighting: Actress Margot Robbie embodied all things Barbie in her role as the titular character in the new Barbie movie, but there is one accessory that fans just cannot stop talking about.

The jewels: The Barbie movie contains many delightful accessories, but one colorful Chanel necklace stands out above the rest. The spectacular statement piece features a row of large, colorful stones with white stone halos set beneath a row of sideways pear-shaped pearls, alternating with gold Chanel logos. Further pear-shaped pearls dangle from the end of each stone and each logo. The piece de resistance is a large heart-shaped pendant hangs from the central logo.

The piece is genuine Chanel, from the brand’s legendary spring/summer 1995 runway show. According to Vogue, costume designer Jacqueline Durann borrowed heavily from the Chanel archive to outfit the Barbie movie’s Barbie. Durran told Vogue that “If Margot wears anything that we didn’t make, it’s pretty much [all] Chanel.”

I haven’t been able to find materials information for this specific necklace, but I did track down a L’Huillier auction listing for a very similar Chanel necklace from the same ’95 collection. The auction listing describes that Chanel necklace as being made of “gold metal” with crystal cabochons and rhinestones. I think it’s a pretty safe bet to assume that the Barbie necklace is demi-fine as well.

The trends: Social media is currently filled with fashion girlies trying to track down this exact necklace – or affordable dupes. It’s safe to assume that there’s going to be a new subset of Barbiecore that’s dedicated to the boldness and joyful exuberance of this exact piece.

What do we think? Costume designer Durann utterly nailed this jewelry choice. The necklace is joyful and over the top and a little bit surreal, just like the best of Barbie’s pink-hued world. I gasped when I saw it on screen and I feel that same level of delight each time I see this piece.

I said above that “the fashion girlies” are desperate for this necklace…and that’s true, but also the fashion girlies are me. I am the one who wants this necklace. Please, can I have it? Pretty please?

The sighting: Actor Ryan Gosling recently attended an LA premiere for the Barbie movie, in which he stars as Ken. Gosling donned a perfectly pink suit for the occasion and topped it off with a sentimental necklace.

The jewels: Ryan Gosling is wearing a chain with a letter “E” pendant in Barbie’s iconic pink-edged white script. The E is a reference to the actor’s longtime partner, Eva Mendes.

I was frustrated at first because I couldn’t find a jewelry credit for Gosling’s E necklace, but eventually I discovered that this is because it’s not made by a jewelry brand at all. The actor’s stylist, Mark Avery, revealed on Instagram that he had the pink-edged letter custom made by Hollywood 3D printing so that he could get the Barbie font and color exactly right.

I am seriously impressed by this level of attention to detail.

The trends: Is it too on the nose to point out that this fits the Barbiecore trend? I don’t think you can get more Barbiecore than a pink letter accenting a pink suit on the man who played Ken.

As for its potential to take off, one has only to look at Hollywood3dPrinting’s Instagram post of this piece to see a slew of comments with dozens of likes from people begging to order Barbie-style initial pendants of their own.

What do we think? This is just perfection. I came of age in The Notebook era, so Ryan Gosling already had a special place in my heart. But his performance as Ken and the utter magnificence of this all-pink outfit, topped with a tiny tribute to the lady who holds his heart could not possibly be more delightful than it already is.

Judgement: 27/10 for pink-edged perfection.

IN HER NEW music video, Grammy-nominated artist Saweetie shows us just how much jewelry can be piled on. She wears pieces from her head to her ankles. You will need to watch the entire video to see all the pieces she has layered and mixed and matched.

The maximalist feeling works for the video, although we can all agree it’s not a look for everyday. Some of the pieces are definitely on trend.

So let’s start: Her earrings are ultra-long and seem to be pearls. Her pearl choker has been identified as Matara’s Bombshell Paradise Necklace with cultured pearls and diamonds. She then adds two necklaces — I can’t be sure whether they’re real diamonds or costume jewelry — that wrap around toward the back of her bandeau top. She wears a diamond necklace that spells out “icy,” and she sure is all about ice — the blingy kind. She wears multiple rings, some with different types of gemstones, on both hands. She also wears wide flat cuffs on both wrists, mixing metals and themes. At some point in the video, her neck mess changes a bit and she adds in some new pieces while pouring water on herself. Perhaps my favorite piece in the entire video — call me classic, although I do like a twist — is the link bracelet on her ankle. It’s a unique way to wear open links and looks great while she is lying down. For a daily look, I would have one sized to fit properly or find a way to wear the bracelet both ways by adding a clasp that would allow part of the chain to dip down.

All things considered, she makes a great case for wearing jewelry — and on her, it is fun to see it done in an over-the-top way.

The sighting: Jewelry designer Brooke Gregson posted a snap of one of her happy customers on Instagram the other day – and this particular customer just happened to be actress Allison Janney.

The jewels: Allison Janney is wearing a pinky ring with a large, rectangular opal set in a thick gold band and a gold bracelet with rainbow gemstone beads. The designer’s website currently lists a similar 18K gold and gemstone bracelet for $1,870.

Brooke Gregson’s Instagram caption says that she knows Janney will “give these two one-of-a-kind pieces an amazing life!” so we know that the actress is adding these two pieces to her personal collection, rather than just borrowing them.

Janney even commented on the post to express her enthusiasm, calling the opal her new “power ring” and saying “You are beyond talented, Brooke! So happy to get to wear both these pieces.”

The trends: That gorgeous opal pinky ring is giving major Mermaidcore, which is one of the summer’s biggest trends. Pinky rings are enjoying a moment too, as are chunky gemstone beads in bright colors. The entire purchase is fun, vibrant, and of-the-moment.

What do we think? I love everything I’m seeing here. The opal ring is fantastic, the beaded bracelet is delightful. I’d happily wear either of them.

There’s nothing better than a celebrity who uses their position to promote the work of artists they genuinely admire. It brings me joy to see, and fact that this is an actress I admire who also just happened to graduate from the same tiny liberal arts college as I did is just icing on the cake.

Judgement: 16/10 for great jewels and a delightful celeb/jeweler moment.

The sighting: Singer Noah Cyrus – little sister of the famous Miley Cyrus – is newly engaged to her beau, fashion designer Pinkus. Congratulations to them! Let’s see the ring.

The jewels: Noah Cyrus’s engagement ring is a modestly-sized round brilliant cut diamond with a traditional halo and diamond pavé band.

Estimates vary as to the size of the diamond and the value of the ring. Maxwell Stone of retailer Steven Stone says the center stone appears to be about 0.80 carats and would value the ring at $10,000, while Jenny Luker, president of Platinum Guild International USA, said the center stone appeared to be around 2 carats and estimated the ring’s value at $30,000.

The trends: This ring’s design is so traditional that it almost feels dated. It’s a surprising choice for an edgy 23-year-old engaged to a literal fashion designer.

Maybe Cyrus ahead of her time and this a harbinger of trends to come? But I think it’s more either this design has a sentimental connection for her or maybe she set her heart on this style of ring when she was younger and haloed RBCs ruled the world.

What do we think? This is a perfectly lovely ring. If someone I knew in real life showed me this ring and told me they were engaged, I would say genuinely admiring things and mean them.

But if you scroll through Noah Cyrus’s Instagram, you’ll see that her personal style can be best described as “high-fashion murderous ghost.” I was expecting her to go in more of a Meghan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly direction, maybe a big ruby surrounded by tiny knives or something similarly dramatic and macabre.

It’s a beautiful ring. A round brilliant cut diamond with a halo on a pavé band is a classic for a reason…but classic just isn’t what I would have expected from two celebrities known for their flamboyant alternative style choices.

Judgement: 11/10 for a lovely ring that feels like an odd choice for this couple.

A GLOBAL AMBASSADOR for Cartier, Vanessa Kirby appeared at the global premiere of Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One wearing Cartier High Jewelry earrings in platinum and diamonds; an 18K gold Reflection de Cartier ring; and an 18K Panthère de Cartier ring with diamonds, emeralds and onyx. The jewels that really stood out were her Art Deco-inspired earrings, which are on trend now just as they were when Cartier reigned as one of the key innovators of the movement. I loved the way she wore the geometric linear earrings with her hair down and flowing along with a Mui Mui sheer gown, which is a fashion trend, particularly on the red carpet. While many of the sheer fashions are edgier, this one was feminine and elegant, embroidered in a netting of crystals and stones that gave off a golden glow.

The juxtaposition of the more structured diamond earrings and the softness of the ethereal gown worked in a modern, wear-what-looks-best on-you way. And these were definitely befitting of the actress who first appeared in the Mission: Impossible franchise in 2018. She is set to appear in Dead Reckoning Part Two.

The sighting: Rihanna wore a fascinating array of jewelry to attend a Louis Vuitton Fashion Show in Paris – including a luxury watch on her neck.

The jewels: Rihanna is wearing Jacob & Co’s 47-mm white gold Brilliant Flying Tourbillon watch reconstructed to be worn as a choker. The watch features 368 diamonds and the newly designed watch choker retails for $700,000.

Rihanna accessorized her watch choker with hoop earrings and a stack of diamond tennis necklaces, although some photos from the night show her wearing a vintage sapphire tassel necklace from Joseph Saidian & Sons instead of the tennis necklaces.

The trends: Jacob & Co’s social media claims that this is the “first time that a timepiece has been worn on a neck,” which made me roll my eyes – because yes, it’s a cool and unusual style move, but absolutely not the first time that a timepiece has been worn on a neck. Watch pendants exist and have been quite popular at various times throughout history.

The PR fail did lead to a hilarious moment when Hip Hop news Twitter account @RapAlert repeated the claim that this is the first time a timepiece has been worn on the neck and was immediately corrected by the great Flava Flav himself. The 90’s rapper, who was known for wearing a giant clock around his neck, promptly informed @RapAlert that they need to brush up on their Hip Hop history.

I don’t know if Rihanna’s watch choker will start a horological neckwear trend, but I do think the insouciance and creativity of wearing traditional items in unexpected ways is extremely of the moment and relevant to jewelry lovers of all budgets.

What do we think? Wearing a $700,000 watch around your neck is a badass move. Even luxury watches are utilitarian at heart; they tell you what time it is so that you can get to your important meetings and events.

When you wear a watch this fancy in a way that means you have no way of seeing the watch’s face to read the time, you’re saying that you’re so far beyond rich that you can afford to buy a luxury watch purely for the purpose of not looking at it. Rihanna doesn’t need to know what time it is, because Rihanna is above time.

It’s unexpected. It’s impractical. It looks awesome. I’m a fan, but I don’t think it’s going to take off among us more normal folk.

Judgement: 14/10 for a really fun look that only Rihanna could pull off.

SURROUNDED BY Andrew Garfield , Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey and other A-listers such as Tom Hiddleston in the row in front of her, Ariana Grande looked chic, cool and casual. It was the perfect combination for a day at Wimbledon.

Dressed in a grey sweater and long maxi skirt, she wore a Wimbledon logo baseball cap with her hair down, Tiffany & Co. sunglasses and gold and pearl hoops by Mejuri. The hoops were just the right amount of jewelry for the men’s tennis finals. Pearls, as all jewelry enthusiasts know, are having a moment, but the most desirable are those you can wear every day and that have a current vibe but will also feel that way 10 years from now. Mejuri, which launched in 2015 and is known for its sustainable practices, self-purchase designs and easygoing appeal, provides that feeling. The pearls pop on the singer without overshadowing her whole look.

My other favorite jewels at Wimbledon were worn by Tessa Thompson, who donned a black floral Rodarte silk dress with a twisted tonal beaded choker that dipped down into longer tassel multiple earrings. And I always love seeing Brad Pitt in his signet ring, which he seems to wear all the time and which has taken over as the ring to own for anyone who wants a personalized and lasting piece. The bracelets are a fun addition. But Pitt is about the only guy who I think looks hot in gold chains, and it seems like he is wearing an emerald and another pendant or some sort of talisman. I know, I know, men’s jewelry is trending, but I always prefer seeing men in corded neck styles. However, when Pitt wears gold chains, they are, well, golden.

MY UNCLE WAS a senior vice president for Mattel when I was at the age to have multiple Barbies and accessories. I had many jewels, but never did I have a jewel that imitated the megawatt bling of the four diamond Lorraine Schwartz necklaces that Margot Robbie wore to the world premiere in Los Angeles of the Greta Gerwig Barbie film. It was Robbie’s first pink-carpet premiere, and the look was based on “Solo in the Spotlight” Barbie, which came long after my Barbie doll days. Throughout the photo calls and at the next premiere, celebrity stylist Andrew Mukamal referenced looks from the iconic dolls and brought them to life on Robbie.

Still, the A-list actress’s own beauty and effervescence showed through. On this occasion, she wore a Schiaparelli haute couture black sequin strapless gown, which provided the backdrop for necklaces that totaled 350 carats of diamonds around Robbie’s neck. That, along with large diamond studs and a 10-carat diamond ring, was enough to create a dazzling effect.

Leave it to Schwartz to not only beautifully graduate the diamond necklaces but also graduate the size of the diamonds as they sparkled down Robbie’s neck. They went from smaller to larger round styles to the final necklace that alternated various cuts of fancy diamonds, including heart, pear, ovals, marquise and more. The jewels never outshined Robbie but, rather, complemented her look, adding just the right touch for her first premiere. The jewels also summed up the trend for statement necklaces!

And, at the most recent premiere of the film in London, Robbie wore a choker of three strands of ultra large pearls and pearl studs from Assael based on the 1960s Enchanted Evening Barbie, which I did actually own (now I am dating myself). Robbie once again looked stunning, and Mukamal nailed another iconic look and another trend — pearls — that is in full swing.
