The sighting: Actress Margot Robbie embodied all things Barbie in her role as the titular character in the new Barbie movie, but there is one accessory that fans just cannot stop talking about.

The jewels: The Barbie movie contains many delightful accessories, but one colorful Chanel necklace stands out above the rest. The spectacular statement piece features a row of large, colorful stones with white stone halos set beneath a row of sideways pear-shaped pearls, alternating with gold Chanel logos. Further pear-shaped pearls dangle from the end of each stone and each logo. The piece de resistance is a large heart-shaped pendant hangs from the central logo.

The piece is genuine Chanel, from the brand’s legendary spring/summer 1995 runway show. According to Vogue, costume designer Jacqueline Durann borrowed heavily from the Chanel archive to outfit the Barbie movie’s Barbie. Durran told Vogue that “If Margot wears anything that we didn’t make, it’s pretty much [all] Chanel.”

I haven’t been able to find materials information for this specific necklace, but I did track down a L’Huillier auction listing for a very similar Chanel necklace from the same ’95 collection. The auction listing describes that Chanel necklace as being made of “gold metal” with crystal cabochons and rhinestones. I think it’s a pretty safe bet to assume that the Barbie necklace is demi-fine as well.

The trends: Social media is currently filled with fashion girlies trying to track down this exact necklace – or affordable dupes. It’s safe to assume that there’s going to be a new subset of Barbiecore that’s dedicated to the boldness and joyful exuberance of this exact piece.

What do we think? Costume designer Durann utterly nailed this jewelry choice. The necklace is joyful and over the top and a little bit surreal, just like the best of Barbie’s pink-hued world. I gasped when I saw it on screen and I feel that same level of delight each time I see this piece.

I said above that “the fashion girlies” are desperate for this necklace…and that’s true, but also the fashion girlies are me. I am the one who wants this necklace. Please, can I have it? Pretty please?

The sighting: Actor Ryan Gosling recently attended an LA premiere for the Barbie movie, in which he stars as Ken. Gosling donned a perfectly pink suit for the occasion and topped it off with a sentimental necklace.

The jewels: Ryan Gosling is wearing a chain with a letter “E” pendant in Barbie’s iconic pink-edged white script. The E is a reference to the actor’s longtime partner, Eva Mendes.

I was frustrated at first because I couldn’t find a jewelry credit for Gosling’s E necklace, but eventually I discovered that this is because it’s not made by a jewelry brand at all. The actor’s stylist, Mark Avery, revealed on Instagram that he had the pink-edged letter custom made by Hollywood 3D printing so that he could get the Barbie font and color exactly right.

I am seriously impressed by this level of attention to detail.

The trends: Is it too on the nose to point out that this fits the Barbiecore trend? I don’t think you can get more Barbiecore than a pink letter accenting a pink suit on the man who played Ken.

As for its potential to take off, one has only to look at Hollywood3dPrinting’s Instagram post of this piece to see a slew of comments with dozens of likes from people begging to order Barbie-style initial pendants of their own.

What do we think? This is just perfection. I came of age in The Notebook era, so Ryan Gosling already had a special place in my heart. But his performance as Ken and the utter magnificence of this all-pink outfit, topped with a tiny tribute to the lady who holds his heart could not possibly be more delightful than it already is.

Judgement: 27/10 for pink-edged perfection.

IN HER NEW music video, Grammy-nominated artist Saweetie shows us just how much jewelry can be piled on. She wears pieces from her head to her ankles. You will need to watch the entire video to see all the pieces she has layered and mixed and matched.

The maximalist feeling works for the video, although we can all agree it’s not a look for everyday. Some of the pieces are definitely on trend.

So let’s start: Her earrings are ultra-long and seem to be pearls. Her pearl choker has been identified as Matara’s Bombshell Paradise Necklace with cultured pearls and diamonds. She then adds two necklaces — I can’t be sure whether they’re real diamonds or costume jewelry — that wrap around toward the back of her bandeau top. She wears a diamond necklace that spells out “icy,” and she sure is all about ice — the blingy kind. She wears multiple rings, some with different types of gemstones, on both hands. She also wears wide flat cuffs on both wrists, mixing metals and themes. At some point in the video, her neck mess changes a bit and she adds in some new pieces while pouring water on herself. Perhaps my favorite piece in the entire video — call me classic, although I do like a twist — is the link bracelet on her ankle. It’s a unique way to wear open links and looks great while she is lying down. For a daily look, I would have one sized to fit properly or find a way to wear the bracelet both ways by adding a clasp that would allow part of the chain to dip down.

All things considered, she makes a great case for wearing jewelry — and on her, it is fun to see it done in an over-the-top way.

The sighting: Jewelry designer Brooke Gregson posted a snap of one of her happy customers on Instagram the other day – and this particular customer just happened to be actress Allison Janney.

The jewels: Allison Janney is wearing a pinky ring with a large, rectangular opal set in a thick gold band and a gold bracelet with rainbow gemstone beads. The designer’s website currently lists a similar 18K gold and gemstone bracelet for $1,870.

Brooke Gregson’s Instagram caption says that she knows Janney will “give these two one-of-a-kind pieces an amazing life!” so we know that the actress is adding these two pieces to her personal collection, rather than just borrowing them.

Janney even commented on the post to express her enthusiasm, calling the opal her new “power ring” and saying “You are beyond talented, Brooke! So happy to get to wear both these pieces.”

The trends: That gorgeous opal pinky ring is giving major Mermaidcore, which is one of the summer’s biggest trends. Pinky rings are enjoying a moment too, as are chunky gemstone beads in bright colors. The entire purchase is fun, vibrant, and of-the-moment.

What do we think? I love everything I’m seeing here. The opal ring is fantastic, the beaded bracelet is delightful. I’d happily wear either of them.

There’s nothing better than a celebrity who uses their position to promote the work of artists they genuinely admire. It brings me joy to see, and fact that this is an actress I admire who also just happened to graduate from the same tiny liberal arts college as I did is just icing on the cake.
